I recently had a long conversation with my best friend in the world. He owns and operates a metal finishing business located in Chicago, IL. His client base is a true cross section of the manufacturing world. The base ranges from automobile parts, to washers/dryers, lighting fixtures, heating/cooling units, retail shelving et. al. Being in business for over 30 years, his insight into the future of the economy, in my opinion, has been accurate almost to a fault. The fact that the manufacturer’s to which his company provides finishing services have reduced and/or eliminated orders can and should be considered a good indication that we are now in and will probably be in a true recession that will last for the better part of the next two quarters and likely beyond.
